Everything you need to know about Doublelist
Back in 2018 when the craigslist personals closed due to FOSTA-SESTA laws, Doublelist came online within 48 hours. Currently they are active in 248 locations, and one of the most popular personals. But do they work?
After you select your nearest location, you'll be taken to the categories page. If you're looking for something more casual you'd select something under "Connect Now" and for relationship seekers you'd select under "Let's Date".
In the "connect now" category you can choose from guys for guys, women for guys, guys for women, women for women, couples for couples, couples for her, couples for him, males for couples, females for couples, gay for straight, and straight for gay. This is a lot more choices then many personals give which is a bonus.
In the "lets date" category you can choose from platonic, guys for guys, women for guys, men for women, women for women, and misc. Since we're focused on casual encounters and hooking up with a woman we selected "Women for guys" which displays all the latest women who are available for men.
After going to the city page with listings you'll see the ad title, specific location in brackets, age, and if there's a picture available you'll see "img" beside age. Once you click any of the ads, it will take you to a page requiring you sign up.
What happens after you join Doublelist?
After confirming you're email it'll ask you to choose an anonymous chat name, ask your gender, age, zip code, and what you are interested in on the site. 😉
After this it will ask you to complete a phone verification, which can be done by either call or text. We received our code in seconds to our phone, and now we're onto the final step, which is choosing your city now that we're logged in.
Once you've completed the sign up process for doublelist, you can view the ads and respond to them either by email or their In-App messaging which is in beta mode currently.
Do you have to pay for doublelist?
They operate on the “freemium” pay model. The first tier is free and allows you to view and respond to ads, and post your own personals ads. The only catch is that there are daily limits, and they only give you a small taste. This works best for light members. If you are just occasionally looking to find a connection this might be enough for you.
The second tier is called "Hookup" membership and includes up to six live posts of your own, 30 messages limit, 250 pages/day, filtering options, and no ads. This is better if you're constantly using the site.
Finally the third tier is known as "Hardcore" and gives you unlimited messages, up to 10 live posts, a premium badge on your user, and no ads. Each plan can be paid monthly or yearly. We decided to go with the second tier for the purpose of this review.
How trustworthy is doublelist?
They have a good rating on trustpilot, and their phone number and address are listed, which is quite transparent for online personals sites. We tested our their customer service by asking a few questions and receiving timely replies with accurate information.
There are however reports of scammers posting fake ads and making it hard to tell which ads are legitimate. This continues to be a problem for a lot of classified sites. Here on W4M Maps we've been able to combat this by verifying every female member, but it's a very time consuming process that many website operates won't bother doing.
Can I find a hookup on doublelist?
Reports on this vary so we decided to try for ourselves. After successfully creating our account and phone verifying we browsed the local "women for guys" and used their filtering to match people closer to us. Remember you have to upgrade to the second tier membership to use the filters.
After finding nearby women, we sent a simple message to 17 of them to see if they would respond back. At the time of this writing two weeks later, none of them have responded. So in our case we were not able to find anyone yet.
All in all we would say that doublelist is moving in a good direction, with constant site upgrades and a growing userbase, it's only a matter of time before they truly become a replacement for the craigslist personals. We'd say they are doing a very decent job!
